Most of us are thousandaires. Millionaires you know who you are. Billionaires we all know who you are. But trillionaires? Financially, there is no one even close to this level of net worth. But you can be a trillianaire.
More after the jump
What’s a Trillianaire?
Stop reading this now if you want to get rich quick. This is TechLife, not “How to Marry a Millionaire”. First off, Trillian is a software program and so, follow me on this, a trillianaire is someone who uses the software program. Big disappointment you say? Not if you are one of the millions of Instant Messaging (IM) users around the world. Then Trillian is truly amazing.
Quite simply, Trillian allows you to run 1 program, with no advertisements that houses all of your IM Buddies/Contacts in one neat little package. Trillian comes in two flavors, Basic (Free) and Pro ($25). Kevin Kurtz and Scott Werndorfer, founders of Cerulean Studios, released Trillian in July of 2000. The most recent version, Trillian 3.1 is their best version yet.
A.C.R.O.N.Y.M.S. (Annoying Cryptic Riddles Offering Nerds Yet More Superiority)
Here’s some alphabet soup. Do you use any of the following; Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, AOL’s AIM or ICQ, or even IRC? Trillian can unify all of these into one window on your PC desktop. I have contacts across the globe and they all use their own IM tool. I used to deal with a few open buddy lists filling my screen, multiple open programs slowing down my machine and various advertisements. Today I have one simple, clean interface, with no ads.

In addition, some of the additional features have been a great benefit. I really enjoy that every conversation is logged and archived. While you may not need this feature regularly, when you do have a meaningful chat and accidentally close the window before you save it, Trillian has already saved it. Each conversation is saved by contact name, for easy manual browsing. Adding a search tool might take this feature to the next level.
Another great feature is tabbed messaging. This has become popular in other software and Trillian was the first to offer this feature in an IM tool. Basically, you group your contact list, by say family, co-workers and customers. In your family you may have a few Yahoo Messenger fans, an MSN straggler and a few other AIM fans. If you begin a few chat sessions with people in the same group, they all appear in the same window, and you just tab from one to the next. It is a great feature for extending your grouped contacts in grouped conversations.

The only downfall is Windows only support for Trillian. At this time Mac and Linux users will have to look elsewhere. I would suggest Windows users check out Trillian and become a Trillianaire.

[...] Most Techlife readers know I use Trillian for instant messaging because we have covered them before. I have also mentioned AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) bots when wrote about FeedCrier. An AIM bot is a buddy you add to your buddy list but instead of a real person the bot is a computer that can answer questions, usually with a tight focus. AIM Bots are available wherever you can IM including the iPhone. [...]
