Mind, Body and Stole
Posted by Dave under Informational , Published Article , Shopping , Sports and Recreation
This is it! The middle of the decade! July 2005 is the exact halfway point between January 2000 and December 2010. Remember back towards the end of 1999? You were going to change your life, learn new things and overall life would be different. So where are you in “Life’s To-Do-List Still looking to add a few more “checks†to completed items?
Techlife would like to share a few helpers in the quest…
Keep reading after the jump.
Mind
Did you say, “I will improve my vocabulary?†It is a common to-do-list item. Now maybe you’re a ROM Brain, a person who refuses to accept input and ideas from other people as defined at WordSpy. If that’s the case, then Paul McFedries 10 year old web site tracking new words and phrases will wash right over you. Over the years McFedries has gathered 2000 plus “new†words that have been cited in multiple newspapers, magazines, books, web sites and other sources. WordSpy provides the citations in most cases to help the user gain a better insight in the their origin.
A quick sampling:
Populuxe (PAWP.yuh.luks, -looks) n. Low cost consumer goods that are also perceived as being stylish or fashionable; a style that is reminiscent of or based on 1950s architecture and design. Also: Populuxe. —adj.
Mouse Potato (MOWS poh.tay.toh) n. A person who spends a lot of time at the computer (cf. couch potato)
Body
You feel smarter already! Now another item on the “Life To-Do-List†for many people is improving their golf game. How can “TechLife†possibly help? Never fear. We found Golf Online’s Private Lessons Profiler .
You start with a 26-question survey that helps breakdown and analyze your game. Then the questionnaire retrieves articles from Golf Magazine’s Private Lessons archives that might help you. I got back over 100 articles. Funny that’s pretty much like my golf score. Hmmmm.
Each article includes a graphic to help you focus precisely on the target of the lesson. Most lessons will only take a few minutes to read, but getting out to the range or the course and practicing them, well you’re on your own in making that happen.

Stole
Stole - That’s not a typo and likely not on your “Life’s To-Do Listâ€. But often times bargain hunting or shopping for that unique item is on the to-do-list. A visit to a police property room or police auction might be just the thing. Police auctions used to be local “police garage sales†where a local department might sell off the items that went unclaimed the past year to the local residents.
Today the major and minor police departments have turned to outsourcing. It’s easier and they often times bring in more revenue. So what might one find, well it’s different each day, but an example listing recently:
$7,389 CERTIFIED 14K WHITE GOLD 1.14CT DIAMOND ENGAGEMENT RING
This item sold for $2009.00, or 73% off the appraised value. This included a certificate of appraisal by the Gemological Appraisal Laboratory of America, Inc placing the value at the $7,389. The certificate stated: 11 Genuine glistening white diamonds totaling 1.14 Carats. Baguette Diamonds total approximately .23 Carats. H Color, SI Clarity. Center Radiant cut Diamond Weighs .91 Carats. F Color, SI1 Clarity. Clarity Enhanced. There were 43 bids on the item, which started at $1.
So maybe pick up a set of golf clubs to practice your online lessons, some populuxe items and of course a new computer, you mouse potato. The decade is just half over, get going.

I’m sorry if this is off-topic, but I need some feedback. Do you think extended auto warranties a good deal?
Thanks in advance for your input.
