Business Networking and Business Books - All in One
Posted by Dave Kaufman under Blogs , Informational
Business networking is the key to many successful business relationships. TechLife is constantly networking. We learned early on that the golden rule of networking is give of yourself first and expect nothing in return. Karma has a funny way of working things out.
I have blogged in the past about DailyLit a site for avid readers via email. But I am also an avid reader of business books as I find I get great insight that can help my clients in planning their business strategy, marketing or technology projects. Thanks to inBubbleWrap.com, I have learned, won, and read some great business books.
I was thinking how great it would be to meet other business book readers and network with them. Together with inBubbleWrap, we have started a free networking project that is just kicking off . If you want to increase your business network this simple and free network will be a great asset to meet smart, well-read people in business.
If you want to get involved the first thing we are doing is naming the group. Submit our new group name and we will then vote to decide the best one. Post any questions or comments.

inBubbleGuy’s kick off email:
State of the inBubbleNation; Today my fellow inBubbleReaders, I bring you great change amongst the populous. I have decided we are more than just a single web site with a single leader. We are collectively more powerful than we are individually, so I have decided to bring together the group of like-minded business book readers to help form a coalition to bring about a great change with more features. I am happy to announce the formation of…..uh, it seems my speechwriter, is making a last minute change here. Sorry folks.
Hmm, this looks interesting. Apparently my volunteer grass roots arm is polling and telling me the inBubbleNation wants more interaction amongst themselves. Apparently free books, knowledge and witty write-ups won’t cut it anymore. I am happy to give more. So as of today we are announcing a FREE “UN-NAMED BUSINESS NETWORKING GROUP.” We will be using a popular partner for online business networking, but besides that, the group is “YOUR GROUP” formed of all the inBubbleNation readers. So I call upon you my fellow inBubbleCitizens to name this “UN-NAMED” business networking group. According to my volunteers we need this name quickly so I will be asking for submissions until Friday, March 2nd, at 5:30 pm Central, so we can bring this together quickly.
The purpose of the group is to allow all members to interact and reach out to each other for business networking. We think this will be a lasting legacy and a great contribution to the business world. So ask not what the business world has done for you, but ask what you can do for the business world.
Let’s start with a name…You have until Friday to submit a suggestion, which you can do by clicking the following link:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=420693390109
After we have all the submissions we will commence a single round of voting to finalize the name.
One last thing, and that is credit where credit is due. This effort would not exist without one member of inBubbleNation. He had the idea, spearheaded the effort. He’s done everything. And I mean everything. I have done nothing…other than, of course, frustrate him with slow response times. You can find my inBubbleFriend Dave over here.
Thanks Everyone!

I would think InBubbleNetwork would be the obvious choice… no?
February 27th, 2007 at 5:43 pm
Well, anything that is inBubble* wis fun but to be fair, my first thought was not the inBubbleNetwork obvious… It was “inBubbleBuddies” but only because I skipped lunch.

I have become recently fond of being part of the “inBubbleMonkeys” group

It seems that I am somewhat on the same track as PinkFu in the second message. My name ideas include:
“Band of inBubble Brothers”
“inBubble Business Village”

Hello Everyone!
My choice for a name would be: InBubbleWisdom
I’ll look forward to seeing all the creative ideas!

I think InBubbleNation would be good, but I must admit InBubbleNetwork is hard to beat!

What does a business networking group do? And what should this one do? Meet smart, well-read people? Sounds good.

@Terry - When I started thinking about business networking, and realized there was a community of smart, well-read people who could benefit from meeting the light went on. It’s great to see the excitement from everyone.

Bubble Net is also a good name for the group. Simple, clean and concise.

A Network Administrator who is interested wrote me personally and asked:
I’ve never been involved in a business networking group, and have no idea what the benefits might be. The cynical side of me would think people would contact me to sell me stuff I don’t want. I try not to give in to my cynical side.
This is a great question so I wanted to share my answer, others might have different advice:
There are many different types of networking and different reasons that people join so it is hard to be say the exact benefits. In this case I think the benefit will be a community of smart, well-read professionals who clearly want to keep becoming better people and having more success. Sounds like the kind of people I would want surrounding me.
As for your cynical side, I will again refer you to my article. The golden rule of networking really is true. That does not mean there are people who ignore it and go straight at you with their pitch. Those people exist. But as a network administrator, think of it as “connections made”. It might be a warm introduction or a referral. Since this will be virtual we will need to focus on some other aspects as well to make our community flourish.

[...] Previously TechLife wrote about the Golden Rule of Business Networking, and how important it is to give first. We wrote this as part of an announcement that we were forming a free business networking group together with inBubbleWrap. We had a call for submissions to help name the group and the response was overwhelming, creative and brilliant. Even the naming ideas discussion was insightful.Thank You for all the great submissions. [...]

[...] Today BubHub comes out of stealth mode. Techlife readers may recall helping name the business networking group and things going quiet. BubHub springs from the end of inBubbleWrap, a site about business books and growing smarter in business. The leader inBubbleGuy, is stepping down from his post of writing a daily blog about the books and giving them away to readers. [...]

[...] One Nation Under Bubble had 15% of the vote, as a distant third. Closely followed by inBubble Connection with 11.7% of the vote. Rounding out the voting was inBubbleHead Network with 4.4% of the vote. Surprisingly, during the nomination process inBubbleHead Network was the most suggested name but clearly didn’t have the legs to carry it further in the race. [...]
