The Polls are Open: Name a Networking Group
Posted by Dave Kaufman under Blogs , Informational , Reader Emails
Previously TechLife wrote about the Golden Rule of Business Networking, and how important it is to give first. We wrote this as part of an announcement that we were forming a free business networking group together with inBubbleWrap. We had a call for submissions to help name the group and the response was overwhelming, creative and brilliant. Even the naming ideas discussion was insightful.Thank You for all the great submissions.
We have narrowed down the list. Now we have a simple task, V-O-T-E-! We want our future networking group to vote on our name, it is after all, “our group” so “we” should name it. Here are the top 5 in no particular order:
- inBubble Connection
- BubHub
- inBubbleNet
- One Nation Under Bubble
- inBubblehead Network
After you vote, drop us a comment here so we can get a good straw poll for why you liked or disliked the candidates. Voting closes March 8, 2007 at 5:30pm CT.

inBubbleGuy’s Top 5 Finalist’s email:
inBubbleNation, today I am proud to announce the top 5 names for our networking group. Not to drag this out like an American Idol show and milk your time, but let me just say that iBG was blown away, both in the creativity of the inBubbleNation and the sheer volume of suggestions. This was a quality AND quantity call to action. Nice job, you had me at hello.
The next step is simple, pick a name and vote it. We will be closing the voting on Thurs. at 5:30pm CT. Go Here to Vote: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=59713433185.
But to borrow another phrase from that movie, (and a suggestion that didn’t make the top 5), it’s time to “Show me the money.” In no particular order, the nominees for Best Name for inBubbleNation’s Unnamed Networking Group are:
inBubble Connection
BubHub
inBubbleNet
One Nation Under Bubble
inBubblehead Network
With so many eager to join the networking group, please begin the debate over the names by visiting Dave Kaufman’s article on our final choices. I think this is going to be “the” networking group to be a part of, all thanks to you. Now go vote.
Thanks Everyone!

LOL @ BubHub. Totally gets my vote.
March 6th, 2007 at 6:06 pm
One Nation Under Bubble fo shuzzle Mr’ Bubble…it bit my kit!
March 6th, 2007 at 6:32 pm
BubHub gets my vote.
March 6th, 2007 at 7:18 pm
Debated between BubHub and inBubbleNet…. decided that BubHub is too fabulous and unique not to get the nod… After all, the hub is where it’s all happening and the spokes stick out from the hub.

BubHub made me smile and is clearly the most creative. I believe it is memorable, simple and fun. Anything that reminds me (an extremely focused, semi-workaholic) to not take life so damn seriously, will usually get my vote.
March 6th, 2007 at 10:23 pm
BubHub sounded great until…
…It reminded me of “boobs”
…Couldn’t get the “StubHub!” yell out of my head.
March 7th, 2007 at 4:27 am
BubHub is just too spiffy not to get my vote. The others are good, but it’s just a couple of layers of bubblewrap better than the rest.
March 7th, 2007 at 8:40 am
BubHub just doesn’t seem to go with the flow of the rest of the site. Who needs a boring old BubHub? It’s sounds too bostonian and proper for my liking (the whole Boston=Hub thing), nothing against the red sox, but come on, this is a GLOBAL network, not solely a New England one.
I mean, it’s InBubbleNation, InBubbleWrap, InBubbleGuy, it should be InBubbleNet.
Besides, not only is it an inBubble “Network”, but the name inBubbleNet reminds be of being tangled in a net of bubble wrap, which sounds like a popping load of fun
So, inBubbleNet gets my vote. Fun and consistent with the theme of the inBubble folks. And we all need some fun to get through the work day

While I love “One Nation Under Bubble” for its playfulness, I have to agree with Lily — inBubbleNet just goes with the rest of the names already established as part of the whole inBubbleWrap ‘establishment’…we’ll all be IN the bubble and the rest of the world will be on the outside of it trying to figure out how to get in!

A little birdie just told me that the voting is nearly twice as many as the initial submissions. Great work everyone. Keep the discussion (lobbying) going for those undedcideds.
And remember even if you vote in a losing effort, we are all going to be excited to be networking, that’s the end goal.

I’m surprised at the popularity of BubHub-though I guess I shouldn’t be, because that gets my vote, too.
The “hub” part is appropriate because the hub is at the heart of the action. And BubHub rhymes with hubbub-you know that something’s going on!

One more update, apparently while the voting is HEATed, it the dead heat variety. Yes that’s right every vote will count in this inBubbleElection. Spread the word, honestly I had no idea it was this close when I wrote my last message.
March 7th, 2007 at 4:36 pm
Without a doubt, BubHub.
March 8th, 2007 at 12:33 pm
BubHub, is interesting…made me think of the Bubble’s Hub turning…..good!
March 8th, 2007 at 12:37 pm
It’s got to be inBubblenet. Bubhub sounds like a Bawstin bah.
March 8th, 2007 at 12:45 pm
BubHub - it’s short, memorable, funny… everything you want a name to be.
March 8th, 2007 at 12:50 pm
I hope for inBubblenet.
BubHub is too close to StubHub, and doesn’t sound business like at all. I can’t imagine telling anyone I am a member of BubHub. It just doesn’t sound professional…
March 8th, 2007 at 1:05 pm
Well, I agree with half the consensus — BubHub sounds more like a place I’d go down in the North End or in the ‘burbs inside the I-95 belt for a cup of chowdah and a Sam seasonal (yes, I do actually live in Beantown). The pun on bub -> suds really calls for the pouring of a pint of Sam Adams (not a bad thing).
While BubHub is fun, and while I dig Dave McCoy’s clever play on ‘hubbub’, let’s remember that this is a *business* networking site. I (hope) I’m as fun as the next guy, but it’s even funnerer to be silly and professional at the same time. Also, when I describe iBW as a “fun business site” note that the professional part of that is 2.67 times the length of the enjoyable part
For these carefully considered reasons, inBubbleNet (iBN) gets my vote! I mean, c’mon, it’s still a business networking site that has the world ‘bubble’ in it and still doesn’t refer to either the stock market or the housing market…
March 8th, 2007 at 1:18 pm
After much thought, I’ve switched my vote to inBubbleNet. If inBubbleHub was an option, I’d prefer that because I love the idea of a hub - center of all the action. But, BubHub might not have enough to connect to the inBubble
March 8th, 2007 at 1:22 pm
Exactly! I’d much rather say “I learned yesterday in my inBubbleNet that Company ABC is being quite innovating in its….whatever” than have to say “I learned yesterday in my BubHub…”
The point of my story would be lost as people interrupt me to ask, “What did you saay? What the heck is a BubHub? Is it a Bos’n thing?”
But, if I say inBubbleNet, then they’ll know I’m part of an interesting Network, and based on the contact of the REST of my statement, they’ll ask to join our inBubbleNet
I lived in Boston for 10 years, I still get asked to say “park the car in harvard yard”. i’d rather that not get in the way of a networking group.
March 8th, 2007 at 1:52 pm
see…. your story makes me want to re-choose BubHub! Because you WANT people to interrupt you and say, “whoa! wow! Bub what?”
If you aren’t interesting, it’s not worth saying.
BubHub is more Purple Cow than inBN…. and if you’re not sure about that reference, you don’t know Seth
March 8th, 2007 at 2:01 pm
The Bostonians seem to think BubHub is to Bahst’n, but to someone from the midwest, I don’t even know what they’re talking about. BubHub gets my vote.
March 8th, 2007 at 2:15 pm
I’m on a last-minute push for inBubbleHub as an option!
I re-read my earlier post - I feel like I should have added a smiley after the “you don’t know Seth” comment.
In case it came across as b*tchy, my apologies

InBubbleNet is very cool ! ! Not sure where ya’ll are getting that Boston thing - BubHub sounds too “rednecky” to me. I live in Georgia where we have tons of Bubbas ! !
Pick InBubbleNet - PLEEEEZE ! ! OKBYBY ! !

[...] Today BubHub comes out of stealth mode. Techlife readers may recall helping name the business networking group and things going quiet. BubHub springs from the end of inBubbleWrap, a site about business books and growing smarter in business. The leader inBubbleGuy, is stepping down from his post of writing a daily blog about the books and giving them away to readers. [...]

[...] Both names, along with three other choices were first announced when voting opened. It quickly became clear that two choices were going to be battling down to the final votes. The lobbying and discussion was heated among the two favorites. It seems some voters wanted a professional sounding name and inBubbleNet with 31.6% of the votes, matched nicely. The other position was that eventual winner, BubHub, with 37.3% of the votes, was a unique, catchy and fun. Some of the Boston and non-Boston voters felt that BubHub was just to Beantown sounding.
