Welcome to Techlife, where the crossroads of Technology and Life intersect. The syndicated print column is published exclusively from this blog, a form of Digital Ethnography. Comments may appear in print.
Business networking is the key to many successful business relationships. TechLife is constantly networking. We learned early on that the golden rule of networking is give of yourself first and expect nothing in return. Karma has a funny way of working things out.
I have blogged in the past about DailyLit a site for avid readers via email. But I am also an avid reader of business books as I find I get great insight that can help my clients in planning their business strategy, marketing or technology projects. Thanks to inBubbleWrap.com, I have learned, won, and read some great business books.
I was thinking how great it would be to meet other business book readers and network with them. Together with inBubbleWrap, we have started a free networking project that is just kicking off . If you want to increase your business network this simple and free network will be a great asset to meet smart, well-read people in business.
If you want to get involved the first thing we are doing is naming the group. Submit our new group name and we will then vote to decide the best one. Post any questions or comments.
Skye was happy to see all the discussion from fans of Stick Arena. He wanted to clear up a few things about the game. I liked what he had to say so I am publishing it here as well for all to read.
I also wanted to mention publicly that the original post even had one person so enraged that they commented with death threats. Needless to say I chose to not post those.
Since the beginning of time, not matter your race, religion, background, the people of Earth have a few things in common. One is that we all have a family. You can make your arguments how there is no way you are related to Sloth, your third cousin on your mom’s side, but you know deep down you are. Geni.com (said genie, as in Genealogy) can help you track down the family you know and more importantly the family you don’t know.
Business need a jolt? Sit down with the marketing and technology vision of a proven “venture strategist”. Dave Kaufman can help solidify your business and organization as the market leader. Did you know that Dave worked with Accenture? Ask him about it . Contact Dave, it’s easy: techlife [at] dkworldwide [dot] com.
(more magic from behind the curtain, if it goes in the print column I am blogging it.)
Need a fresh perspective for your business? New Logo? New website? New marketing approach? We can help. Hit me via email at: techlife [ at ] dkworldwide [dot] com. Are these links just too darn long? Are you just lazy? No problem, visit the TechLife weblog where all you need to do is point and click.

A million views and counting, Digital Ethnography will really make you think about the history of the recent change from print to digital creation. Billions of images indexed by Google makes Guess-the-Google challenging and addictive. Got less than a $1000 to spend, then look how to take an inexpensive television and make it into a flat panel LCD in 1 step. This is Techlife.
The instructions are easy. You will be shown a montage of images that would show up if you typed in a query into Google Images. You can guess as many times as you want in 20 seconds. Guess the word get points and a bonus based on speed. There are 10 rounds. So simple, yet highly addictive.
*SPOILER ALERT* Here’s my hints
Glance at the images as a whole you might get the right answer fast.
No luck with the glance method? Look closely at a few you might see the word in the images.
Still no luck, play again, I got a few words repeated in successive games and was able to get those fast.
Ze Frank mocks reads Techlife?
Ok, so maybe we are being a bit narcissistic here, but in the February 13, 2007 episode of The Show with Ze Frank, (a really informative show with tons of inside jokes) at 0:39 sec he says:
The other day I read somewhere that someone thought I was the head of the LOA. (League of Awesomeness.) Me! I am just finishing the internship and I haven’t even started to write a book about nothing.
Now we know that this is like 15 degrees of Kevin Bacon but follow this humor us…we posted the Look Shiny post on February 9, 2007 (the other day?) where we said (Ze read?):
Ze obviously Not bloody likely! reads Techlife and was too polite to ask for a retraction. Well we get it, so here it goes:
Mr. Frank please excuse the reporting and fact checking, we know in this age of Internet Journalism any talking head can pop up and claim to have done their research. In the case of mistaken titling we apologize for referring to you as Leader of the League of Awesomeness as we have learned directly that you are in fact just an intern at this time. We offer our deepest apologies at this error to both you and your organization. We further hope that this gaffe does not impede your quest for entry into this elite organization. Furthermore we hope not just have gained a reader but a friend.
Do you have further thoughts on the Internet and information accuracy? Please comment on it.
Watch the video Web 2.0 … The Machine is Us/ing Us by Kansas State University Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology Michael Wesch. In his blog he covers a bit more in depth on the various aspects of this unique view of the world. He is quoted as writing:
My videos explore mediated culture, seeking to merge the ideas of Media Ecology and Cultural Anthropology.
Professor Wesch introduced me to the phrase Digital Ethnography. Wikipedia defines Ethnography as “people writing.” A bit more complex definition appears to be writing that describes human social phenomena using both qualitative and quantitative descriptions intertwined to best explain the observations. It is used often in anthropology.
By extrapolation Digital Ethnography could be described as understanding the way humans use digital forms of expression to interact using a combination of modern delivery mechinisms and mediums.
René Descartes said, “I think, therefore I am.”
Professor Wesch might say, “You create, therefore we create.”
And I get the easy line of, “Cool Video.”
I explain daily to clients that reaching out to create lets others reach out to you, thanks to Professor Wesch for showing the history leading to Web 2.0.
Tech head Nick Douglas with encouragement from the League of Awesomeness and its leader Power Mover (and Shaker) Ze Frank, is starting a video podcast called Look Shiny. It starts Monday, but those in the know, which of course are TechLife readers can get a jump on the secret preview action.
Watch Nick from the beginning and learn about his 5 second cooking classes. It looks like a real winner.
Normally we fire up a computer to manage Techlife but today we were not near the computer when the Tmobile Sidekick 3 alerted us to a comment on a previous post via an email.
I have written before how useful it is in today’s world to have a Sidekick or Blackberry. As a consulting firm, we help small businesses setup their mobile email and it immediately makes a huge impact in our clients work/life balance. They don’t feel so tied to the computer. Our clients love being active and mobile. Contact us to help your small business.
I appreciate the flexibility of mobile email, and today I add the power of mobile web as I post this from my Sidekick 3.
